Ultimate Carework: Tell Your Story
Thursday June 19, 6:30-8:30PM
Pomfret LIbrary @ Old Town House
Join local author Christine Kalafus for a storytelling workshop inspired by her new memoir of the medical gender bias that followed her simultaneous delivery–twins, and a tumor–FLOOD (Woodhall Press, June 2025). In remission from Triple Negative Breast Cancer, Christine sought training as a volunteer peer counselor–but found that the ultimate form of care-work is sharing your story. When she met her first patient referral in her volunteer experience, the two women stood in a kitchen and lifted their shirts–sharing their physical and emotional scars. They shared their stories for over two hours.
The workshop will include a presentation on learning to care for our communities by sharing our stories, time to generate your own writing in an author-led workshop, and an opportunity to share your own work.
