The space is well ventilated: it is made of a breathable cotton canvas, has both front and rear entrances and four windows, and we removed the zip-in groundsheet. The conical shape sheds rain and light snow, and performs well in wind.
The tent, furnishings and new rear entrance to the library were funded by the Everybody Learns Grant. On October 7, 2020, Governor Ned Lamont announced that his administration was dedicating $2.6 million of Connecticut’s Coronavirus Relief Funds to support the state’s public libraries as they continue to make health and safety improvements and offer more services to residents amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Pomfret Public Library received a grant of $22,574. In addition to extending the usability of the deck, funds were also used for PPE, children’s room furnishings, air filters and other small public health-related upgrades. We will be extending the reach of the public wifi with the addition of an outdoor access point in early spring.
