Pomfret Public Library has a wonderful collection of educational resources for families – everything from games for learning letter sounds to a telescope to a Karaoke machine! You can get an idea of what we have available for check out by searching our catalog for Early Learning Kits. All of the ELKs resources can be checked out for use at home or in the classroom.
The Language Arts Collection has manipulatives and games in four levels: Letter Recognition; Forming Words; Forming sentences and Grammar; Reading Comprehension. The Math Skills Collection has three levels: Counting, Sorting, Numbers; Addition, Subtraction, Money; and Multiplication, Division and Time. The Science and Technology Collection is divided into four sets: Life Science; Earth Science; Physics & Engineering; and Technology.
We also have a (nearly) complete set of the Harper Collins Lets-Read-and-Find-Out Science books. This long-running series is “planned for the child who is eager to know”. Stage 1 books explain observable science concepts for preschool and kindergarten children and include subjects such as the human body, plants, animals and the world around us. Stage 2 titles are for primary grades and include the human body, plants, animals, dinosaurs, space, weather and the seasons, our earth and the world around us. Many of the Stage 2 books include hands-on activities and experiments.
