Literature in Times of Strife:
Reading Tolstoy’s War and Peace
Join us for a lecture and discussion with Dr. Zachary Rewinski on the importance of literature during difficult times in general, and the history and context of Tolstoy’s War and Peace in particular. While this presentation is offered in conjunction with Pomfret Library’s Slow Read 2026 of War and Peace, you are welcome to attend without committing to reading the book! That said, we do have copies available for you to borrow with a take-your-time checkout period through the end of 2026.
Dr. Rewinski is a native of Woodstock, CT. He studied Russian language, culture and history at Oberlin and received his PhD from University of Wisconsin-Madison. He has lived and studied in Saint Petersburg, Irkutsk, Moscow, and Daugavpils, Latvia, and is currently an Assistant Professor at Colby College in Waterville, ME.
The presentation and discussion will be here at the library (in our new Meeting Room!) but we’ll arrange for a virtual discussion if there happens to be a late-season storm.
