The Porch at Pomfret Library!

The outdoor meeting space is back for another season!

This space can function in whatever way you need it to.

  • Snuggle up and read.
  • Stop by with a yoga mat for a change of scenery.
  • Bring the kids for a picnic lunch.
  • Meet for tutoring, book discussions, afternoon tea, a writing session…

With comfy pillows, space heaters, and complimentary tea & cocoa, The Porch at Pomfret Library offers a unique outdoor space where people can gather in small  groups. Call or email the library to reserve a time, or take your chances and come on over. 860-928-3475

The space is well ventilated: the tent is made of a breathable cotton canvas, has both front and rear entrances and four windows, and we removed the zip-in groundsheet. The conical shape sheds rain and light snow, and performs well in wind.

The tent, furnishings and new rear entrance to the library were funded by the Everybody Learns Grant.  On October 7, 2020, Governor Ned Lamont announced that his administration was dedicating $2.6 million of Connecticut’s Coronavirus Relief Funds to support the state’s public libraries as they continue to make health and safety improvements and offer more services to residents amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.  Pomfret Public Library received a grant  of $22,574.  In addition to extending the usability of the deck with the tent and furnishings, funds were used to improve the rear entrance to the building, and for PPE,  children’s room furnishings, air filters and other small public health-related upgrades. We also added CTPublicWiFi, an outdoor internet access point.
